Grossing over 29.9 million dollars in the opening week, The Hobbit was one of the most successful movies of late 2013. I enjoyed every aspect of this movie, and it keeps you on the edge of your seat from the second the movie began to the moment the credits started rolling. A particularly strong performance was given by Benedict Cumberbatch as the dragon and main antagonist, Smaug. Not only did he do the voice, but he also recorded the motion capture as well. Although the producers claimed it was unnecessary, Cumberbatch insisted that it would help him get into character, which seems to have worked as the Smaug was, in my opinion, one of the most convincing characters. Other notable factors included the score, done by Howard Shore, which really helped to set the mood throughout the story. The Hobbit: the Desolation of Smaug is a must-see for anyone with a taste in movies of fantasy and adventure.
