With another year underway, the 2013 reviews are coming in, but it seems like a lot of them are negative. 2013 seemed like a very positive year to me, though, so I decided to write a review of all of the positive events of the year.
I’ll start with movies. The top five highest grossing movies of the year were Iron Man 3, Catching Fire, Frozen, and Man of Steel, and one of these movies (Iron Man 3) made the top five list of highest grossing movies of all time. It was also a big deal for Frozen, the first Disney princess movie in three years, and Catching Fire, the sequel to a huge favorite, The Hunger Games, to be made. Overall, 2013 was one of the biggest years cinematically in a long time.
Music was another great component of the year. The most successful songs were “Thrift Shop” by Macklemore, “Blurred Lines” by Robin Thicke, “Radioactive” by Imagine Dragons, “Harlem Shake” by Bauauer, and “Can’t Hold Us” by Macklemore. A bunch of important singles were released as well, like “#Beautiful”, one of Mariah Carey’s first singles since 2010, and “We Can’t Stop,” which was Miley Cyrus’s first release since 2010.
Finally, the current events of the year were unforgettable. Pope Francis was elected, for starters, which was a huge event for the church. Also, Kate and William, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, had their first son, an adorable baby boy named George. It seemed like the majority of America was hoping for another princess to be born, but it was pretty impossible not to be excited about Prince George’s birth.
Overall, 2013 was a pretty successful year, from new singles to royal births. It’s too bad that the holidays are over, but we can all finally put our effort into making 2014 just as great.
