What do you call thousands of people waiting hours on end to show a minute and thirty seconds of their talent? That’s right! America’s Got Talent. I got to go with my sister to New York to support her in her audition for America’s Got Talent! My sister’s talent is singing. She can sing pop, country, opera, you name it. My sister decided to sing a classical song called “Time to Say Goodbye” by Sarah Brightman and Andrea Bocelli.
It was an incredible experience. There were thousands of talents. Comedians, singers, marching bands, dance teams, acrobats, and plenty more filled the lines in New York City. As we waited, we met so many people, all having the same dream as my sister. We heard and saw many people practicing and through all the chaos, we can say we had a great time. After eight hours of waiting outside, inside, seated, and standing, my sister’s number with 50 others was called to audition. We waited another hour until my sister came out. She came out telling us about the other auditioners in her room and group. There was an astronaut on skis, an interpretive dancer, a rapper, and another singer in the audition room with her. She told us that we will not know till January if she made it or not but told us it was an incredible and interesting experience even if she did not make it.
Many people do not know what truly happens behind the scenes when watching America’s Got Talent. The audition was the preliminary round before even seeing the judges that we all know and love. She had to audition with everyone else in front of the producers, and the producers would then see if they want them to actually be on the show or audition. Also, they did some filming there as well. Unlike what everyone thinks, they took ten takes of people doing their talent in the waiting room instead of what we all think is one take. It was super interesting to see all the acts practicing in the waiting room, and it sure was entertaining.
I have to say the experience was fun but super long. But I would do anything for my sister, so if she wants to tryout again, I will be right next to her and support her all the way. Always remember to follow your dreams and keep trying no matter what, whether it’s trying out for America’s Got Talent, a sports team, or the play and remember to never give up!
