Cool, delicious, creamy, healthy! All words that frozen yogurt brings to mind. Frozen yogurt is a phenomenon that has begun to pop up all around the country. There are self-serve locations all across Maryland. But, in reality, how much more healthy is frozen yogurt than your typical pint of Ben and Jerry’s?
According to the Livestrong Foundation “A one-half cup serving of homemade banana frozen yogurt contains 121 calories and one-half cup of vanilla ice cream contains 130 calories”. The difference is only about nine calories on average; however, there is the potential for a fat free yogurt to be less calorically dense. Fat, on the other hand, is a whole different issue. In a sugar free yogurt such as “Original Tart,” there are 0 grams of fat; whereas in a normal ice cream there are 7 grams. In this light frozen yogurt is much more healthy as far as carbohydrates go.
There are numerous locations around the Baltimore area that serve frozen yogurt. The following is a list of just a few of many options:
Yolavie is located in the Towson Mall. This is a nice modernized frozen yogurt store with many different self- serve flavors as well as toppings to quench your appetite!
Yogoya is another great place to go! Equipped with comfy couches, a cool light display below the counter and several televisions to watch, yogoya is a great place to relax with your frozen yogurt. Yogoya is located at 2046-B York Road Timonium Maryland.
Two other great places include Tutti Frutti, as well as TCBY. These are both common chains; however, don’t let that fool you. They each boast an impressive selection of flavors and have, as most yogurt places do, a modern edge to their stores. Tutti Frutti is located near Calvert Hall College at 8600 LaSalle Road, Towson, Maryland. If you ever need a quick pick-me up after school, this may be the place for you! TCBY is located in Belvedere Square at 540 East Belvedere Ave!
The frozen yogurt trend is continuing to increase, and everyone should be a part of this delicious treat’s success.
