As Easter fast approaches, many girls are getting ready to celebrate, both in and outside of school. Easter has so many important aspects, such as mass, prayer, celebration, and quality time with friends and family! Within the walls of NDP, everyone is gearing up for Easter week, and the exciting Masses and prayer services that come with it. Personally, I am so excited for Holy Thursday, and the Easter Mass before we leave for Spring Break! However, you don’t have to take my word for it, as we have some exclusive blazer opinions here about the upcoming festivities.
Q: What is your favorite part of the week leading up to Easter?
Azi C ‘28: “I love the week leading up to Easter because of the anticipation that comes with the holiday. As we reach the end of Lent, I love family traditions like shopping for vacation and spending time with family.”
Q: Why are you excited for our Easter Mass?
Azi C ‘28: “I love the sense of sisterhood that we all get from celebrating Mass together. I also love the music and decorations during Mass, our liturgy band and teachers work so hard to make it a beautiful Mass.”
Q: Are you planning on celebrating religiously outside of school?
Azi C ‘28: “I am planning on attending my church with my family, and I can’t wait to celebrate Easter with my loved ones.”
Easter is definitely a religious holiday, but that doesn’t mean families can’t celebrate in their own unique ways. Many families have special traditions for each holiday, and Easter is no different. In fact, our NDP family has several traditions, and I know we all love them, and it brings us closer together as sisters. Despite having several weeks left until Easter, some families are already preparing for their special traditions. For example, my family is already planning our Easter meals and special egg hunts for the kids in our family. So many NDP families have special traditions to share, and who knows? You might just find your new favorite Easter Tradition! Here are some student answers to the question, what is your favorite Easter tradition?
Abigail K ‘27: “Every year my family and I attend an Easter egg hunt at our local elementary school. I love helping hide the eggs and getting to watch the joy on the kids’ faces when they find them. I feel that it really helps me get into the spirit of Easter and practice almsgiving for lent.”
Ella N ‘28: “My favorite Easter tradition is prayer with my family. Every year we all gather in a circle on Easter morning and pray for each other. We all talk about what God has blessed us with and all the gifts we take for granted. It is a special tradition to me that helps bring my family closer together and remind us of all the good things in our lives.”
Azi C ‘28: “I love my family’s Easter tradition of getting Easter baskets after church. We all attend church as a family, and then when we return to our house, the Easter bunny visited and left us baskets full of candy and other goodies! I love going to church as a family and getting to worship God with the people I love, and the treat afterwards is fun as well!”
Well fellow blazers, as you can see, our school really loves Easter! But do you know where it came from? The story of Jesus’ death and resurrection had been told many times, and no doubt you have heard it before, but take some time this Easter to really think about it. Your reflection could be anything from a quick prayer to attending church and thinking about the story written on the walls. (Fun fact, those story plaques are called The Stations of the Cross.) Jesus is very important to our school, and He walks with us every day here at NDP. Easter is a great opportunity to celebrate His sacrifice so we can live our lives free of original sin! And Easter can also be a great time to celebrate the start of spring break with our families. If you want to find out what your fellow blazers are doing over spring break, check out The Gateway’s Spring Break article by Reese Romano. As our time before spring break quickly draws to a close, I hope everyone is excited and has a great time preparing for and celebrating Easter with both their NDP sisters and their families at home. Happy Easter everyone!
