With the upcoming fall concert and musical, it is the perfect time to highlight some of NDP’s performing arts. Featuring an individual from Concert Choir, Chamber Choir, Concert Band, String Orchestra, and Theater, readers can delve into the mind of the performer.
I asked each performer two questions. What does being in performing arts mean to you? What is your favorite performance (song, number, etc.) from the “fall season” and why?
Jennie Pfister, Concert Choir, said, “I love to perform and showcase my talents with others. It gives me creative expression and emotional output. It is a really fun experience to perform with other talented individuals. My favorite song this season is “Viva La Vida”. It is the one pop song we are doing. I think it sounds very good, plus the song conveys a lot of emotion and drama.”
Brianna Mahai, Chamber Choir, said, “It gives me an outlet to express my vocal creativity and pursue my love for the arts. My favorite song is “Rise Up My Love: because even though it is really short there is a lot of dynamic and technique that makes it beautiful and unique.”
Audrey Mallonee, Concert Band, said, “It is a fun break in my day, and it gives me a community. My favorite piece is “Music for a Darkened Theater”. It is a medley of “Nightmare before Christmas” and “Beetlejuice” and its very spooky and cool”.”
Charlotte Benhoff, String Orchestra, said, “To me performing arts is about self-expression, and since I play the violin, I express myself through playing music. My favorite performance at NDP this season is either “Autumn Aria” or “Capriccio Espagnol”. Both of these pieces are super beautiful to listen to and really fun to play.”
Mia Saxon, Theater, said, “I think that as performers, we have the unique privilege to help audiences empathize with others. I am honored and grateful to be able to facilitate that catharsis for the community alongside my NDP sisters on stage. My favorite number in the fall musical is “Way Down Hadestown”. I am very excited for the audience to hear it with the live band. The choreography is amazing and so fun to executed.”
All of the performers enjoy sharing their talents and expressing themselves on stage, whether with an instrument, voice, or theatrical performance. Being a part of performing arts myself, the ability to connect with a variety of audiences is truly magical and I am so glad The Gateway could open up the performer’s mind for its readers!
