The long awaited senior New York City trip had finally arrived on a cloudy, Thursday morning for the Class of 2024. All seniors gathered in the Dining Hall, filling the walls with excitement and anticipation for the senior class’ most coveted event of the year. Then, the senior class hauled their luggage onto buses, and set off for the great city. Reflecting on this trip, I have grown to appreciate the time I got to spend with my friends, and the ability to explore the Big Apple with independence. On behalf of my NDP sisters, I am certain to say that the New York City trip is definitely a memory we all will never forget.
Once the Senior Class set foot in the hustle and bustle of New York City, everyone dispersed to various parts of Manhattan. Some toured the iconic Radio City Music Hall, others went sightseeing, and my friends and I decided to take on Times Square. Times Square is an area of Manhattan that is full of culture, music, and entertainment. Hundreds of people walked everywhere coming from all different walks of life. The billboards showed various advertisements that were vibrant with color, and the shops were filled with avid shoppers. If you want to visit an iconic place full of the contagious energy New York has, then Times Square is the place to be.
Thursday evening, the Senior Class reconvened for a night out to see the Broadway Musical, Back to the Future, which was a fantastic show with lots of catchy songs and impressive acting. The theatre was filled with laughs, gasps, and applause from all viewers coming to see this phenomenal musical. After the show, the senior class went to various restaurants. For my friends and I, we ate at Cafe Un Deux Trois, which had spectacular cuisine. Once we left the restaurant, we were all astounded by the business of New York. New York certainly lives up to its characterization as “the city that never sleeps”.
Early Friday morning, my friends and I boarded a ferry boat to see the skyline of New York City, the Statue of Liberty, and Ellis Island. Though the weather was not ideal, as there was fog that blanketed the skyscrapers, seeing the city and some of America’s famous landmarks was an amazing experience. That afternoon, we traveled to SoHo, where we visited Taylor Swift’s old house on Cornelia Street and toured the Museum of Ice Cream. The Museum of Ice Cream is certainly a sweet place to visit if you are looking for some scrumptious treats and a great time to spend with friends and family. And if you claim to be a Swiftie, check out Cornelia Street where you will see Taylor Swift’s old house!
Friday night, my NDP sisters and I once again took on New York’s night life to see another Broadway musical, MJ. MJ was a stellar musical that certainly encapsulated Michael Jackson’s music and personality. The actors played each role to perfection, and the choreography was unlike any other musical I’ve ever seen. Once again, we all rushed to our restaurants, which for my friends and I was Bond 45. Another great place to eat some delicious food, Bond 45 provided the New York energy that everyone craves when they visit one of the biggest cities in the world.
On Saturday morning, before the Senior Class sadly departed from the concrete jungle, we walked over to Central Park. If you are looking for a place to find a change of pace from the business of city life, Central Park is the place for you. The park was filled with many people, but still provided the greenery to give you a different view of scenery. Central Park also has some amazing views of the monstrous skyscrapers that surround the perimeter of the park. Once we left Central Park, it was sadly time to leave. On behalf of my fellow NDP Senior Class sisters, I can definitely say that it was a trip to remember.
