Volunteer Opportunities During COVID-19

Complete your service hours at these locations or wherever you want to help out!

Bridget May, Staff Writer

In the mist of the pandemic, many in-person volunteer opportunities have been redacted, so some may think: “What can I do to complete my community service hours?” I am here to tell you what is available.

1. YMCA

Locations: Towson Y, 600 W Chesapeake Ave, Towson, MD 21204 / Weinberg Y, 900 E 33rd St, Baltimore, MD 21218 / Greater Annapolis Y, 1209 Ritchie Hwy, Arnold, MD 21012

The YMCA is great place to volunteer and there are many locations where you can! From helping with the 2020 Giving Tree to working a shift during this year’s socially distant Turkey Trot, there are so many opportunities for everyone. At the YMCA, their goal is to help give back to the community through events and outreach programs. The YMCA is a fantastic option for volunteering and a wonderful way to help your community.

2. First Fruit Farms

Location: 20431 Middletown Road, Freeland, MD, 21053

Website: https://www.firstfruitsfarm.org/

First Fruit Farms is a great volunteer opportunity for high schoolers in all grades. It is a Christian non-profit organization that provides fruit to those who need it in the Mid-Atlantic region. Even though their volunteer opportunities for the fall harvesting season are booked up, there are many more opportunities this upcoming spring and summer to help around the farm. I encourage everyone to sign up early to secure a volunteer position at First Fruit Farms.

3. American Red Cross

Location: 4800 Mt. Hope Drive, Baltimore, MD 21215

Website: https://volunteerconnection.redcross.org/?nd=rco_opportunity_browse_list

The American Red Cross is in urgent need for volunteers! During the COVID-19 pandemic, volunteers are in high demand for multiple positions. The Red Cross provides volunteer opportunities in Maryland working with blood donors, inhabitants in shelters, and youth. There are volunteer opportunities for people who like to work behind the scenes and for people who like to interact with clients. The Red Cross needs your help to continue their mission in the various communities across America.

After researching volunteer opportunities in Maryland, I realized there are plentiful options. Places across MD need our help now due to COVID-19. I urge everyone, who is able, to go and volunteer at the locations I previously mentioned or to volunteer at any location that gives back to our community!
