A Christmas Liturgy to Remember

Julie Patterson, Staff Writer

Six years in the making, it was finally time for my last Christmas liturgy in a blue dress and saddles. As everyone began filing into the auditorium in their Christmas sweaters and accessories, all of the seats around me began to fill until there was no empty seat in sight. Mass began, candles were lit, and Father Roth delivered a homily which I, as well as many other girls I talked to, found quite interesting; it was about how we should all be Grinches. Ordinarily, we all think of the Grinch as bad because he stole Christmas from all the Whos in Whoville, but Father Roth told a bit of a different story. He told how although the Grinch from the movie lacked Christmas spirit, which, from our clothing choices at the moment we obviously did not, the Grinch also repented for what he did upon realization of how truly terribleĀ he was. The Grinch ends up cutting the Roast Beast to share with all of the Whos. So all this time we have seen the Grinch in a negative light, we are now able to see the good of the Grinch as well. Following Mass, during the break, I sought to try to atone for any poor actions that I had recently committed in order to be more of a Grinch like Father Roth spoke of. I tried my best to spend more time with my family, as the Grinch eventually did with the Whos and to participate in as many Christmas activities as possible as I knew that that was something that I had not done much of while school was in session. I think that anyone could do just as Father said and become a bit more of a Grinch this holiday season.
