NDP’s Trivia Queens

Morgan Peck, Staff Writer

If you stumble upon a classroom full of girls answering trivia questions about past American presidents, rock formations, famous poets, or Hollywood movies, you’ve found NDP’s It’s Academic team.

The It’s Academic team includes members from every high school grade and different trivia backgrounds. Some can name an American president when only given the number; others are whizzes in biology and chemistry. Others are experts in famous actors and the movies in which they starred. The team captains are Abby Conte ’16 and Grace Sullivan ’17. Its moderators are teachers from different academic departments: Ms. Jablonski, English; Mrs. Lipinksi, science; Mr. Ellis, history; and Mrs. Wilson, math. The teachers help the girls during practices and encourage them during meets.

The team competes against local schools throughout the year. During their first meet last week, the NDP team beat Maryvale by a score of 28-19, though they lost to the defending league champions John Carroll, 21 – 27. This past Saturday Abby Conte ’16, Grace Sullivan ’17, and Miya Dubler ’16 represented NDP at the WJZ It’s Academic taping, to air December 26. There are many more matches to come, so stay tuned to hear more updates!
Tune into WJZ-13 on December 26 at 10 am to watch the NDP compete against Walkersville and Hereford High schools in the first round of the televised It’s Academic competition.
