The first quarter is finally over, and the freshman class officially has class colors! It was an exciting Freshman Retreat, and everyone had a great time. The retreat was on Wednesday, October 16th, and the day started out by getting to know each other in our small groups, which were chosen randomly by picking colored saddle shoes. Once we all broke the ice, we had our faces painted by the seniors (blue be loyal, white be true) and headed to the Yeardley Love Field for a game of blob tag.
Blob tag was a blast, and we played another icebreaker game after this, trying to find our group of “animals” by only making their noises. We found our groups (and related the game to NDP life, of course) and moved on to some “circle games,” one that involved sitting down on all of the other girls in the circle. Sadly, we were not successful.
We all moved on to small group discussions after this, answering questions about life so far at NDP. It was fun to hear everybody’s opinions on school, and everybody seemed to love it already. We then followed our group’s seniors to a liturgy, where we heard some of the seniors’ stories from freshman year and learned a little bit more about ourselves. Everybody was anxious to see our class colors after this.
Our class crowded around the cafeteria doors, trying to get a glimpse of our colors through the well-covered windows. When the doors were finally opened, we all filed (and trampled each other) into the dining room to see our colors—Orange and Blue! Most of us were really happy when we saw our blue and orange decorations, and even happier when we all finally got to eat. Overall, it was an amazing retreat, and I only hope that the rest of them can be as good.
