Now officially a month into the school year, the freshmen are finally becoming a complete part of the school by choosing the class of 2017 colors. With the first Gym Meet meeting already behind us, the entire freshman class seems pretty psyched about the new school year. It’s finally time to elect a Gym Meet captain and penny queen, and there are a lot of great candidates already. It seems like the class of ’17 has colors as a top priority, though.
The color elections are coming up this month, and there a lot of ideas as to what the freshman banner should look like. The weird thing in all of this is that in most of the popular combinations, pink is not included. There has been some talk about turquoise and coral, purple and teal, red and blue, and even black and white, which really does seem a little dull, but it seems like pink is not as popular as it has been in past years. This could be partially because so many pink combinations are already taken, with pink and yellow, pink and orange, and just about every other pink-and-something pair that you could possibly imagine, or it could just be that the freshman class won’t be going mainstream with the banner.
A lot of the color suggestions seem more like those from way back in the school’s history—especially red and blue. Is it possible that the classes are going to start backtracking in time with their banners? It does seem odd that it has been so long since a class used red in its banner- even though I can’t even say that I especially like the choice. Even colors paired with black and white are popping up a whole lot more than you would expect.
The most popular combination from what I’ve heard is turquoise and coral, with red and blue as a close second. Either the class of ’17 likes blue almost as much as the sophomores, or turquoise is phasing in at NDP. Either way, the freshman banner will probably be different from just about every other class’s. Personally, I can’t wait to see what we choose as our 2017 class colors, and I’m sure that whatever they end up being, they will be fantastic.
