One of the most anticipated events of the summer, The Paris Olympics 2024, was a two weeklong event that started on July 26th and ended on August 11th. The Paris Games had around 10,500 athletes competing in over 329 events. This year, Team USA had 592 athletes competing in Paris and came in first place with the medal count of 126 combined medals between gold, silver, and bronze. The French put their own twist on the opening ceremony by having the teams floating in on boats on the Seine River and having the Olympic Rings on the Eiffel Tower. The flag bearers for the opening ceremony from Team USA were tennis player Coco Gauff and basketball star Lebron James.
The star athletes continued to shine their lights, but the spotlight shone on some upcoming athletes as well. Simone Biles became the most decorated gymnast in history with a total of eleven Olympic medals, four coming from Paris. And the spotlight slightly shifted over to newly famous, “Clark Kent of gymnastics”, Stephen Nedoroscik, who placed the men’s gymnastics team in third for bronze and earned his own bronze in pommel horse. Noah Lyles officially got the title for “World’s Fastest Man” by getting the gold in the 100-meter dash and coming third in the 200-meter dash, despite having COVID – 19 in the latter. Tara Davis – Woodhall won gold in the women’s long jump, running in celebration to her Paralympian husband, Hunter Woodhall. Sydney McLaughlin – Levrone set the 400-meter hurdles World Record for the sixth time, at 50.37 seconds. Katie Ledecky, a nine-time Olympic medalist with four from Paris, broke her own Olympic Record and holds the top twenty performance times for the 1500-meter freestyle. She was also a closing ceremony flag bearer, along with Nick Mead, a rower who won gold in the men’s coxless four.
The Olympics had a new swaggy flare with the beloved Snoop Dogg, he connected with the athletes’ families, cheered them on, and added joy to the Games. In conclusion, the 2024 Paris Olympic Games were a huge hit filled with success, determination, emotion, and fun.
