As the year begins to wind down, so do the spring sports. Starting in February, the badminton, lacrosse, golf, track and field, and softball teams began to practice and performed excellently.
Badminton had an amazing year. Going 6-4, the team played strong. With 24 girls, the team became close as they bonded over fun activities like Senior Night. When asked how the season was, Izzy Sage ‘25 said, “I loved our before-practice stretching and how supportive the team was through every match! We got the chance to bond on and off the court. The badminton team had a great season, and I can’t wait until next year”. Filled with excitement, fun competition, and deep bonds, it is no surprise that badminton is such a popular sport at NDP.
Maryland is known for lacrosse and NDP reflects that. With three Upper-Level lacrosse teams, many girls are given the opportunity to play their favorite sport. JV Lacrosse played amazingly this year and came first in their division. Maggie McDonnell ‘26 said that “This year’s NDP lacrosse season was so fun. I had the best time on JV, and this was definitely one of my favorite seasons yet”. The JV team played very well, and they were not the only lacrosse team to do so. The Varsity Lacrosse team had a solid season as well. Going 10-8, the team played some great teams, like the Scotland U20 team. While the NDP team did win, the girls were all given the opportunity to meet the other team. While the Scotland team enjoyed Chik-Fil-A for the first time, the Blazers got to share what life in America is like. Molly Bryson ‘25 shared a little bit about her experience on the team saying, “It was so fun getting to learn and grow with my teammates, not only as players, but as people”. The Varsity Lacrosse team did amazing this year and had some really cool opportunities that other teams and schools do not have. Great job to all lacrosse teams this year!
Spring has a lot of sports and golf is one of them. The golf team had a great season with fun memories. Coached by Mr. Powers, the bus rides were filled with laughter and the matches were always fun, no matter the score. Izzy White ‘25 said, “NDP Golf is such a fun team with the best people, who always make the most out of everything”. Izzy also noted that after matches, the team would do something fun. For example, after one match they went and got Crumbl Cookies together. Danielle Polun ‘26 also gave her look on the season, saying, “It was really fun, and I learned so much about golf. We went to the driving range. We would chip and putt for practice and the matches were always fun. I can’t wait for next year”. The Golf team, no matter the outcome of the match, always had fun and each of the returners next year cannot wait to start their season again.
Track and Field started off with a new coach in February. Getting off to a running start the team started training hard. With multiple personal records made throughout the season, a couple teams going off to Penn Relays in April, and a good finish to the season in May, the Blazers finished 5th in the conference. While the ultimate score was not what the team had hoped for, the season was filled with fun memories and good team bonding. From Bagel Breakfast to Senior Night, the team became closed and made the season fun. Shannon Polun ‘25 said, “The track team is so fun. My favorite memory would be going to Penn Relays with my 4×400 team. Can’t wait for next year”. The season may not have ended how the team wanted, but next year they will be back and running, jumping, and throwing faster and farther than ever.
Last year, NDP’s Varsity Softball team came in first for their conference. While they did not finish as the champions this season, they went 9-2 for the entire season. They played many difficult games and still came out on top. While they may not have won this season, they played so well and finished as runners-up. Lucy Myers ‘26 said, “We had a great season. Each player played a part in each game. I feel like our team really came together when we played Maryvale and came back from being beaten. I always knew after we’d lock in, we’d rally. We’ll be back next year”. The softball team had a strong season, and they are ready to keep training. They want that championship banner and they will work harder than ever to reclaim it next year. However, this past season was still a blast for all the players, and they are so happy with how it turned out.
Every spring sport was amazing this year and whether they play a fall or winter sport, these athletes cannot wait to return to their spring sport. Congratulations to all athletes who competed and let’s go Blazers!
