Winter Sports Tryouts
November 19, 2015
Winter sports are starting up again at NDP! As the cold weather weather approaches, girls can choose to participate in basketball, swimming, indoor track, or indoor soccer.
Tryouts began on Monday, November 2nd for all sports except for indoor soccer, which began on November 11th. Winter sports provide a source of motivation and school spirit during the cold, dark months from November to February.
I asked Mrs. Byrd, the coach of the NDP swim team, about what the swimmers can look forward to this year. She said, “My expectations for this year’s swim tryouts are that they are going to be tough! The tryouts are based on times, and we will have a full practice and then time trials to determine who makes the team.” The basketball coach, Mrs. Marks of the NDP Science Department, summed up her excitement for the season to come by saying, “We have a strong core of returning players and we hope to add some new talent to our team for the upcoming season. We hope to once again be competitive in the IAAM and have scheduled some difficult out of conference games as well.”
Girls not playing a winter sport can still show their NDP pride by braving the cold and cheering on soccer, track, basketball, or swimming, while wearing NDP sweatshirts, sweatpants, or even a wearable blanket! {on sale in the trading post :)}
Whether they are running, shooting hoops, scoring goals, or swimming relays, all of the girls who will participate in winter sports this year can look forward to the fun, hard work, and sisterhood that come along with being a part of an NDP team.
