On September 15th, NDP’s Varsity Volleyball team represented our school in a crucial tournament at McDonogh called the ‘2012 Eagle Invitational Volleyball Tournament’. The girls call it a “play day.” There, the team had a record of 4 wins out of 5 vigorous matches, only losing to Seton Keough, leading them to be the overall victors of the tournament. They played other teams in our A conference such as McDonogh, Spalding, Mount de Sales and Mercy. Varsity’s head coach, Coach “I” (Isferding), told us his expectations for their season to come. “Last year we had an amazing team, but this year, the talent level and the players’ commitment to volleyball are so high I really think we can win it all.”
Sydney Tommins, co-captain of Varsity, also has an exciting prediction of how this year is going to go. ” I think that this year we definitely have a lot of potential to be one of the best volleyball teams we have had in a while, but it’s going to take a lot of hard work and focus.”
In the previous season, NDP’s Varsity team had an extremely impressive record, and they hope to do even better this year. Even after losing major players like Cassidy Cunningham, who now attends the University of South Carolina, there are new members of the team who are ready to hold their own. Rylee Prusak, Paige Hudak, Bella Pivec and Natalie Garinther are new Sophomores who plan to bring all they can to the court and show the upper class-women what they can do. Also joining the team are Juniors Megan Cannon and Katie Willis. Each of these new players get valuable starting time and really sock it to their opponents.
This is going to be an exciting season for both the Varsity and Junior Varsity teams, and we hope you will come to their games and cheer them on to victory!
