Another fall sports season has come and gone here at NDP, and each team performed extremely well. The Cross Country team finished third overall for the A conference in the October 26 IAAM Championships at Oregon Ridge. The season was completed with 8 wins and only 2 losses. St Mary’s finished second in the A conference, behind Archbishop Spalding, the winner of the overall title. NDP Cross Country placed third in both the 2009 and 2010 IAAMs. Laura Monaghan said, “The season was so much fun! The team is amazing, as are the coaches. I’m glad we finished strong!”
The Notre Dame Prep varsity field hockey team had a fantastic season, finished second in the “A” conference Red Division, with seven wins, four ties, and only one loss. The team made it all the way to the IAAM semi finals, where they lost to “A” conference Gold Division team McDonogh with a score of 2-1. They put up an incredible fight though, with a strong finish to a great season. Junior Ronnie Bridges said, “We really had a great season. Hopefully, we can make it to the finals next year!”
The varsity soccer team finished fifth in the “A” conference wit
h a record of three wins, one tie and four losses. The team had an amazing quarter finals game against Mercy! The two teams were tied 1 to 1, and a penalty kick shoot out decided the winner. NDP won the penalty kicks, advancing to the semifinals. A great game indeed! NDP lost to McDonogh 6-1 in the semifinal game; however, they should still be incredibly pleased with their season.
The tennis team here at NDP finished the season with a record of two wins and seven losses. It was a short season, however, with the first match on September 13, and the last match on October 13. Although they may not have had a winning record, the tennis team still knew how to have fun throughout the season and finished with good spirits.
Last but not least, the NDP volleyball team finished fourth in the “A” conference with a record of 6 wins and 3 losses. After a great quarterfinals game against St. Vincent Pallotti, where NDP won 3-2, the team advanced to the semifinals. Unfortunately, volleyball lost to the “A” conference winner Archbishop Spalding 3-0, but they still put up an incredible fight and have a lot to be proud of.
