The Hundred Foot Journey

The Hundred Foot Journey

A film involving two love stories, foreign relations, and cooking might seem like too much, but it turns out that The Hundred Foot Journey has the recipe for success! Produced by Steven Spielberg, Oprah Winfrey, and Juliet Blake, this culinary piece was released on August 8th and had immediate good reviews. This is no surprise to any fan of romantic comedies.

In this movie Helen Mirren plays a seemingly snobby French restaurant owner, Madame Mallory, who is not at all happy when a new Indian family opens a restaurant just one hundred feet away from theirs. This new family not only provokes ill feeling on Mallory’s part, but also creates a full-out war between the restaurants. Between pigeon-stealing and house fires, these French chefs pull out all the stops in order to drive out the competition. The movie isn’t all about family conflicts and war, though.

The key component in this movie, like any other romantic comedy, is the romance. I won’t say who falls in love, but anybody who has ever looked at the movie poster could probably take a guess. Either way, no matter how worried you are about whether these characters will have a happy ending, the film is still a fun experience for movie and food fans alike, so don’t forget to see The Hundred Foot Journey while it’s still in theatres!
