Sunday night the 86th Annual Academy Awards or the Oscars (yes, they are the same thing) occurred beginning at 8:30. Since we had off the next day, it seemed like the perfect opportunity to tune in. The Awards started off strong with some amazing dresses, though there were some misses as per usual Oscar style, and a typical Jennifer Lawrence fall, which she handled with grace. I cannot say the same thing about her walking. After some great red carpet moments, Ellen began the show with her opening monologue.
Ellen as a host, was hilarious throughout the night. She ordered pizza during the show and had Brad Pitt hand out plates, something that I never thought could happen. Then, she proceeded to take “the most retweeted selfie ever” with actors Bradley Cooper, Brad Pitt, Angelina Jolie, Meryl Streep, Julia Roberts, Jennifer Lawrence, Lupita Nyong’o, just to name a few. The picture received over 2 million retweets, a new record.
Another noteworthy segment during the night was the celebration of the 75th Anniversary of The Wizard of Oz. Pink gave a beautiful rendition of “Somewhere over the Rainbow” while wearing a dress that looked similar to the famous ruby slippers. Then, Ellen honored the movie by putting on a Glinda costume.
Personally, I thought that this Academy Awards was fabulously executed this year. Ellen did a great job as the host, and the performances were all very well done. I only wish that Leonardo DiCaprio could have finally gotten his Oscar, maybe next year.
