Merry Blazermas everyone!! As you all know, there are many traditions at NDP, especially traditions leading up to Christmas. One of the best traditions we have is our Dance Assembly, where all those dancers share their amazing talents with us, spreading cheer and awe. All of these dances ranged from cheerful and joyous to moving and powerful. Below are some of my personal favorites, while all were so incredibly amazing that it was hard to choose, these are the best of the best!
Best Duet: A jazz piece called “Runaway Baby” by Ava S. ‘27 and Anabel D. ‘27. These two were energetic and had lots of chemistry! Everyone was dancing and singing along to this dynamic duo. Way to go girls!!
Best Ballet Solo: “Pigtailed Girl Variation” from “Graduation Ball” performed by Maggie L. ‘30. This beautiful piece was very mature and very well executed. Maggie did an amazing job and brought smiles to everyone’s face. We love it!!!
Best Interpretive Dance: “Blackbird” choreographed by Rosanna R. ‘91 and performed by our Dance Company and Apprentices. “Blackbird” was very interesting and incredibly thoughtful. This dance was also wonderfully portrayed by these dancers. Keep up the great work ladies!
Best Solo: “Rome” performed by Lily M. ‘28. Lily self-choreographed this piece. Her technique was exquisite, and she conveyed the emotion of the dance really well. Overall, an amazing dance and it was so nice to watch. Way to go Lily!!
Most Hype Dance: “Drummer Boy” performed by Foundations of Dance III and Advanced Studies. This hip-hop piece was a great way to kick off the assembly and got everyone moving! What a great job girls!
The Hardest Dance: “Waltz of the Snowflakes” performed by Dance Company Cast 1. This piece was an incredibly challenging work. Nevertheless, these girls executed it with poise and perfection. The dance was wonderfully choreographed and extraordinarily performed. That was beautiful ladies!!
Best Trio: “Lose My Breath” performed by Kaitlyn S. ‘29, Caroline S. ‘29, and Danielle H. ‘29. This trio was so fun to watch and had lots of energy. It was evident these girls had lots of fun and put in lots of work. Astounding job girls!
Best Middle Level Duet: “Blow” performed by Bella H. ‘30 and Mariel G. ‘30. This piece was high energy and incredibly amusing to watch. The audience were wonderstruck by these girls snazzy moves. What a performance Bella and Mariel!
Best Student Choreographed Dance: “Have a Holly Jolly Christmas” performed by Dance Company Casts 1 and 2 and choreographed by seniors Gracie D. and Bella P.. This dance really brought the Christmas spirit and was such a joyous dance. Everyone was singing along and getting even more excited for the season. Thank you Gracie and Bella!!
Most Powerful: “Silent Night” performed by Advanced Studies in Dance. This piece showcased all of the troubles our world has faced and this was expertly delivered by the girls movements and expression. The entire auditorium was left in a trance and this dance brought goosebumps to many, including myself. What an incredible piece!!
Honorable Mentions: “Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree” by the 6th grade, “You Make It Feel Like Its Christmas” by the 7th grade, “Run Rudolph Run” by the 8th grade, “I Have a Dream” by Dance Company Cast 2, “Snowman” by Foundations in Dance I, and “Underneath the Tree” by Foundations in Dance II. All of these dances made the entire assembly complete and brought joy to our lives. The choreography was well thought out and executed well by the girls.
All of the girls who participated in this assembly put in countless hours of practice and worked tirelessly to put on such an amazing show for us. Thank you to everyone who helped to make this assembly such a great show and for showcasing the true meaning of Christmas – being together. I cannot wait for what is to come during next year’s Dance Assembly and, of course, I hope everyone had a very merry Christmas!!
