Ever wondered what a truth or dare game would be like, but with a twist? Based on the novel by Jeanne Ryan, Nerve is a game of truth or dare, only without the truth. Watchers pay to watch the action, while the players play to complete the dares they are given and win the game. In a world where everyone is playing this gutsy game, Vee pressures herself to play in order to fit in with the crowd.

Vee soon joins the game and experiences what it is really about. From getting a tattoo to trying on a designer dress, this game was filled with unique and one-of-a-kind dares. As she played, she decided to team up with a fellow player named Ian. The pair worked together to try to get to the top and defeat other fierce competitors.

Suddenly, dangerous pasts are unlocked, and a great truth is learned about the game. A game full of courage and fun to some, may become a danger and hazard to others. Relationships may change directions, and people may turn against each other. Just when you think you got out of the game, think again.

In this film, Emma Roberts as Vee explored her character very nicely, transforming from a timid girl to a fearless woman. Every dare she completed, she opened up to the life of danger and risk. Dave Franco as Ian helped Vee go outside of her comfort zone, while at the same time holding a dark secret. Their chemistry in this movie was very evident, adding much needed romance to a thrilling film. Also, the supporting roles worked very well with the other characters and seemed to fit the part as bold teenagers. In addition to the character development, the scenery and colors were astonishing. The film was set in the middle of the night in a chaotic city. The bright lights of the city created an eerie glow in the scenery. It added a scary effect to the dares as they were being completed by the different characters in this movie.

As I watched this film, I was constantly on the edge of my seat. The intensity of the dares were electrifying, and I never got bored watching it. The concept of this movie is one that I have never heard of before. It combined a modern idea with a bit of a futuristic feel. With familiarity of technology today, the idea of a game similar to Nerve becoming relevant is an idea that may not be as impossible as we think. With climactic endings and conflicting relationships at times, this movie is a definite must-see. Lovers of exciting and shocking films, or maybe dystopian films, will definitely have to see this movie!
