Phantom of the Opera: Review
April 15, 2015
Over this spring break I had the pleasure of journeying up to NYC for the last Saturday and Sunday of break with one of my best friends, Haley Metzger. Amid the flurry of pictures and walking and sight-seeing, we had the opportunity to see the Majestic’s production of The Phantom of the Opera, and I must say I was singing the music for the rest of the night. This play is set in the late nineteenth century in Paris, France. It focuses on a young star named Christine and her journey becoming a star. She has a lovely voice that she says was inspired by her “Angel of Music,” who turns out to be the Phantom of the Opera. It is a must-see play, and in this particular performance the cast was perfect, and emotions were high as they sang and danced their way through this classic. The Phantom, played by James Barbour, had a beautiful range and was perfect in the role. To compliment his beautiful voice was Julia Udine, who played the role of Christine. She hit every note perfectly, and the two made you feel right in the middle of this complex tale of mystery, betrayal and love. If you’re ever travelling to New York City, be sure to stop by and see one of the best Broadway productions out there, and travel to The Point of No Return.
