Catching Fire. Those two words probably give you an image of much more than a burning blaze. If you think of a strong female protagonist, a corrupt government, or a heart-wrenching love triangle, you’d be right. But even this does not fully cover all that is encapsulated in the dystopian sequel to the highly-acclaimed novel and blockbuster hit, “The Hunger Games.”
“Catching Fire,” is a must-see for any fans or those who enjoyed the first movie. It may even be one of the few sequels that is known for being even better than the first. It also stands to soon become the top grossing movie of 2013. And this would then be the first top yearly movie that depicted a female main character. The only other movie that came close to this honor was “Titanic,” which had two protagonists- a male and a female.
But not only has “Catching Fire” produced quite a bit of profit, it was also a spectacular film. The emotion in the movie was unbelievable. Even the coldest of hearts could not resist the moving scenes depicted. The plot thickens in Katniss’s relationship with her two close guy friends- Gale and Peeta. Peeta adores her, and Gale also has deep feelings for his best friend.
As Peeta and Katniss embark on their victory tour, they observe the beginnings of a rebellion. Katniss is also forced into a shaky agreement with President Snow. He is faced with the challenge of controlling a country that is desperately hoping for freedom. Katniss has provided them with that hope, and now she has to decide what she believes in and what she is willing to fight for.
On top of all of this, the 75th Hunger Games are rapidly approaching. In addition, it will be a Quarter Quell that is full of unexpected surprises and new twists on the morbid tradition. New friends and foes present a conflict as it is hard to know who the true enemy is. What will Katniss and Peeta do when they are faced with their greatest challenge yet? And what will happen with Katniss and her boy problems?
“Catching Fire” is definitely a movie you should not miss! If you are looking for an action-packed, emotional, and exciting film, then this is for you!
