Now, after reading the title of this article, many of you are probably saying to yourselves, “Who the heck is tobyMac?” Well, read on, and I’ll let you know.

Last week, tobyMac was number one on the Billboard 200. A couple weeks ago, he was in the number one featured spot on iTunes. And his new album has been mastered on iTunes (This basically means it was created to have higher sound quality for downloads).

“But who is he ACTUALLY?” you ask.

TobyMac (born Kevin Michael McKeehan) is a Christian hip-hop/pop/rap singer. He used to be part of the rock group DC Talk until his solo debut in 2001. Since then, he has released 5 albums and won 5 Grammy awards. His albums have sold more than 11 million copies, and his new album, “Eye On It” has sold 69,000+ copies already.  Besides all of this, he’s the first Christian artist to top the Billboard 200 since 1997 and only the third to do it ever!

“Um, but he’s a Christian singer,” you might be thinking. “They sing hymns and stuff.”  Seriously? Take one look at this guy and his music, and think again. Does he look like a hymn music singer to you? I didn’t think so.  And not only do his songs sound great, but there’s no worry that you’ll  hear some less than pretty lyrics while jamming out.

I would highly recommend his album, “Eye On It” to lovers of any kind of music; I really love the variety of the album. Repetitive music by the same artist is a personal pet peeve of mine. If this describes you, you won’t be disappointed with this album!  His song “Forgiveness” features some great rapping while the title song, “Eye On It” is more hip-hop.  The rest vary from happy go-lucky tracks such as “Favorite Song” to pop tracks that’ll be stuck in your head before you know it (try “Steal My Show” and “Me Without You”).
