If you are interested in learning how to play the ukelele, or just a lover of music, Ukeladies could be the club for you! Ukeladies is a student-led club in which they help new learners of the Hawaiian instrument and teach current players new songs to further their abilities. Club member Liliana Iavarone has stated about her experience in the club, saying, “Ukeladies has motivated me to learn how to play a number of songs on the ukelele, and it is a great way to meet new people and make music!” The Ukeladies have found ways to share their talents, such as performances at NDP events, and field trips to local nursing homes. Being a part of the Ukeladies is a great way to learn the instrument, have fun with friends and meet new people, and play fun music!
On November 30th, the Ukeladies made their debut performance this year at Tree Trim, with “Feliz Navidad”. This was a fun way to kick off the Christmas season and get everyone in the holiday spirit. On December 7th, the Ukeladies took field trip to Stella Maris where they performed for numerous retired SSNDs and Redemptorist priests. Their lineup of songs was “Santa Claus Is Coming To Town”, “Rudolph The Red-Nosed Reindeer”, “Blue Christmas”, “Deck The Halls”, and “Feliz Navidad”. The club was also able to reconnect with Sister Raymond and Sister Mary Michael, both of whom have previously spread their knowledge throughout the NDP community. Sister Raymond and Sister Mary Michael, along with a number of other former sisters and priests were so grateful for their visit to Stella Maris and for their music.
Overall, the Ukeladies is a fun and music-filled club, with lots of opportunities to perform and learn about the instrument. Club president, Abby Doran, encourages all who are interested in learning how to play, or those who already know how, to join the club and participate in all the fun activities that Ukeladies has to offer.
