Sisters Forever

My Big Sister, Kaitlyn Winner at last year’s Gym Meet

Is there a better way to start off the first day of school than with bagels and new friends? Of course not! The Big Sister Little Sister Breakfast on the first day of school was something I had looked forward to for a long time.  Honestly, I’ve been excited to get a little sister ever since the first day of sixth grade.  My big sisters were so helpful and sweet, that I couldn’t wait to be a big sister myself.  Having a big sister or a little sister is one of the best traditions at NDP.

Being a big sister or a little sister isn’t just a responsibility or a tradition, but one of the best opportunities I’ve been given at NDP.  In freshman year when I got my big sister, I was terrified and only expected to see her during Big Sister Little Sister activities and on Gym Meet.  I was so excited when I met her because we both instantly clicked.  We both wanted to be good friends and got to know each other through the activities that we both liked, for example, band and theater. Over the two years that we were big sister little sister, we became great friends and still keep in touch even though she is in college.  I not only loved my big sister, but also my many honorary big sisters.  One of the greatest things about NDP is the community of sisters we form.  All of the upper class girls  that I knew acted like my big sisters, and that is one of the greatest gifts I’ve ever received.   Being surrounded by a group of wise and caring girls made me feel at home no matter where I was.

Getting to know my big sister was one of my favorite things during my time at NDP, but I am now just as excited to be a good big sister for my little sisters. I couldn’t ask for a better opportunity to make new friends.  I can’t wait for a great year to come with my new little sisters!
