Exams. It’s the dreaded word of every student. Unfortunately, we can’t avoid them so as I say, if you can’t avoid them, make them the best you possibly can. And the best way to conquer exams is to study. I also know that studying is not many people’s favorite activity. Here are some tips to make it a little more bearable and a little more effective:
1. Quizlet
Quizlet is a website where you can make a free account that will help you study. You can make flashcards and study them using different methods. You can generate your terms into a test, run through your flashcards (without peeking), and even play games to help you remember those terms.
2. Classical Music
Studies have been done on classical music and studying for many years. Classical music doesn’t have any words to distract you from studying, and it increases your focus on your material. A really good station to listen to is the Pandora “Classical for Studying”. It plays a lot of movie scores, and popular music covered classically.
3. Color Coding
Using color definitely helps. Post it notes, highlighters, anything that adds a little pop to your notes. Color makes terms stand out and actually helps you remember that term or main point in your notes.
4. Don’t Study All at Once
If you study all at once, most likely you won’t remember as well as you would by studying in chunks. Also, this way you won’t get overwhelmed or bored. It allows for more breaks and less hair pulling.
5. Positivity
It may sound clichéd, but stay positive!! Confidence is key when taking an exam. It doesn’t make you feel as stressed out, and it keeps you from sabotaging yourself with anxiety. However, you cannot let yourself get too confident and then become cocky. Cocky is just as sabotaging to yourself as anxiety.
Now with these tips, you are ready to take some exams, and before you know it, you will be walking out of your last exam, feeling good and POSITIVE! Good luck and happy studying!!!
