What I know for sure is that honesty is the key to everything. According to dictionary.com, honesty is defined as: truthfulness, sincerity, or frankness. I know that honesty is one of the most important qualities that human beings should strive to have. When I am honest with my friends, family, and teachers, I feel it makes me a better person. Therefore, I know that honesty is the rarest wealth anyone can possess.
I always try to be honest in every situation. I know I am not perfect, and yes, I will admit, I have lied before. I do know that it is very wrong, and I try to be the most honest person I can be. When I am honest, I feel that I can build stronger relationships with my friends and family. Being honest with my friends is so important to me. I realized honesty was so important when my mom told me a story about her and her best friend, and how they continuously fought with each other, just because they did not have the courage to be honest with each other. Ever since I realized how important honesty is to having a good relationship, I have built so many more close connections with different people.
I know honesty is one of the most important qualities I wish to possess because it brings out the best in me. I am honest because I want to be, and I know it will benefit me in the long run. For example, a few years ago I accidentally broke a vase my mom had sitting on the counter. I was the only witness, and I was scared to confess to my mom that I had been the one that broke her vase. After a few days, the guilt of not telling the truth was eating me up inside. Right then, I knew the right decision was to tell her, no matter the consequences. Immediately after I told her the truth, I expected her to be extremely mad, but instead, she was not mad at all. My mom was surprisingly very happy and proud of me for owning up to the mistake I had made. Also, after telling the truth, I felt unbelievable, and I was proud of myself too. From that day on, I knew that honesty is always the answer.
Lastly, I strongly believe that honesty is the route to happiness. Sometimes telling the truth is hard, but I know it is always the correct decision. Occasionally, I do struggle with telling my friends or family the truth because I know that it could hurt their feelings or get me into trouble. When my friends tell me the truth, it makes me happy because it lets me know that I can trust them and tell them anything. I know from experience that the truth hurts, but I know that it will benefit me throughout my future.
In conclusion, I know for sure that honesty is such an integral part of who I am and how I live my life. I believe that I will be successful in my future if I follow this path of honesty. To me, honesty is one of the most valuable characteristics, and I am so thankful for realizing the power it has. Being honest can be rewarding and scary at the same time, but in the end, being honest with yourself and others is worth it. And as the Bible states, “The truth shall make you free.” This I know for sure.
