The 28th of January was undoubtedly music’s biggest night of 2018.  The airing of the 60th annual Grammy’s celebrated astonishing talent, public awareness in a plethora of social issues, and awarding of well-deserved hard working artists. Hosted by the hilarious James Corden, the Grammy’s is certaintly the award show not worth missing.

P!nk’s jaw dropping presentation of “Wild Hearts Can’t Be Broken” was powerfully simple yet elegant performance with just her, a microphone, a plain T-Shirt, and even an ASL signer, which added to the emotion her voice has already amounted to. Performances by Ben Platt (“Somewhere”) and Patti LuPone (“Don’t Cry for Me Argentina”) bridged the modern to the past with timeless show tunes paying ode to the talent of Broadway stars and music. America’s expectations of Bruno Mars grow higher and higher at each performance, and he raised the bar once again with Cardi B in “Finesse” (Remix) bringing the audience to its feet before either of them even started singing. “1-800-273-8255” by Logic featuring Alessia Cara and Khalid and “Praying” by Kesha displayed tear- and goosebumps-producing performances. Logic’s unforgettable speech at the end of his performance acknowledged a case for social justice tackling racism, immigration, and inequality. Kesha’s performance accompanied by other formidable females of the music industry stood by her as she sang to bring attention to the #MeToo movement, which acknowledges and fights sexual assault and harassment.

The biggest names in the music industry as well as some upcoming ones certainly received recognition for their work this past year. Alessia Cara accepted the Grammy for Best New Artist. Bruno Mars, with his album “24K Magic” won Album of the Year, Record of the Year, Best R&B Performance, and Song of the Year. Ed Sheeran received the Grammy for Best Pop Solo Performance with “Shape of You” and Best Pop Vocal Album with “Divide.” Childish Gambino accepted the Grammy for “Best Traditional R&B Performance” and presented chill-producing performance of “Terrified” accompanied by the Lion King’s young Simba, JD McCrary.

The 60th annual Grammy awards certainly goes down in the books as a night of awareness, celebration, and community. May 2018 bring music and artists that are more amazing, impactful, and transcending.
