This month’s featured artist is Valentina Corsaro, senior AP Studio Art and Digital Media II student. Check out her interview below to learn about her portfolio concentration, poster committee experience, and art plans for the future.
What art courses have you taken throughout high school?
I’ve taken Art I, Art II and am currently taking AP Studio Art and Digital Media II.
Which course has been your favorite?
AP Studio Art is probably my favorite because instead of being restricted to one objective, we get to use our imaginations and create something wild.
What is your concentration for your senior portfolio?
My concentration for my portfolio is biomechanics. It’s the intertwining of everyday life and machines. The picture to the side is an example of what I’m talking about. It’s probably one of my best pieces yet.
How does this concentration pull all of your individual pieces together?

How does this concentration pull all of your individual pieces together?
I guess you could say it gives greater meaning and purpose to the series of art pieces. It makes each individual piece one part of a whole idea, one scene of a story.
How is working on the poster committee different from working on a project individually?
How is working on the poster committee different from working on a project individually?
Working on poster committee is both more challenging and easier than individual projects. It’s more challenging in the sense that you have to get 7 people to compromise on an idea, but it’s easier because you have more people to work on the art piece.
How do you plan to incorporate art in your life after graduation, either in college or in your free time?
How do you plan to incorporate art in your life after graduation, either in college or in your free time?
After graduating from NDP, I plan on going to an art college to study illustration or game design. I’m really into video games and am always being inspired by them, so I think taking a course that incorporates both video gaming and art would be a good way to spend four years in college!
Do you see art playing a part in your future career?
Do you see art playing a part in your future career?
I most definitely see art playing a part in my future career. I hope to work for a gaming company as a concept artist, creating and designing characters and creatures and the world in which they live.
