Emma McLaughlin and Nicole Kraus create a hysterically sarcastic novel by recalling their own experiences as nannies for Manhattan’s upper class families. The book centers on Nanny, an NYU student. She is employed “part-time” by the X Family to tend to their four-year-old son Grayer’s educational, nutritional, emotional and social needs so that his parents are not bothered with any aspect of raising a child.
McLaughlin and Kraus write wittingly, finding humor in every aspect of Manhattan’s wealthy stereotypes. This is a must-read for babysitters. If you find babysitting exhausting, think again! “The Nanny Diaries” is an easy read for anyone looking for a laugh. Follow Nanny’s frantic escapades through New York City and beyond as she juggles specialized preschool, playground drama and a few mandatory college assignments, which may or may not determine graduation.
Nanny’s easily relatable personality entertains the reader and brings humor into every horrible circumstance. Read “The Nanny Diaries,” and determine for yourself whether Nanny has any authority over a demanding four-year-old, any right to a personal life, or any control over her school work when she takes on the part-time job of raising a child.

I thought the book was interesting and shocking at times, but I was disappointed in the ending. After everything she put her through and the tear she created between Grayor and Nanny at the end, I wanted a confrontation between Nanny and Mrs. X! Tell her off already!!! And I was extremely disappointed when it didn’t happen. Ms. Sandy Veresink
